"Healthy food sucks!"

"Being healthy is stupid."

you guys are full of shit. and a vegetarian diet supplemented with fish is a "PESCETARIAN" and its for health reasons, for people who actually give a shit about whether they want their blood vessels to be clogged when they're forty, or whether they want to take cholesterol pills when they're 35.....

i hope you all die of obesity.

Oh, and don't criticize people who care to eat vegetables and fish just because of the labelling that some people have misused when you're fucking gorging yourself out everyday on cheese fries and lard cakes.

Sausage and potato casserole [25 Aug 2005|08:01pm]

Another recipe posting.  As I am an instinctual cook most of the time so remember that most ingredients are approximate, optional items are in italics..
Angie's Sausage-Potato Hotdish  (I'm from MN so it's hotdish, if you live elsewhere,it would be a casserole)
1 lbs (1 tube/roll) bulk breakfast sausage (I prefer the Jimmy Dean Hot or reduced fat variety )
2-3 large potatoes, peeled and sliced
1 (8oz.) pkg. cream cheese or neufchatel (light cream cheese), cubed
6 green onions with three inches of the top, chopped
2 T. Flour
1 cup milk
salt and pepper to taste
a good dash of white wine
sour cream as needed to add to the sauce (because we like sour cream)
melted butter

In a large skillet, Brown up the sausage and the onions, drain . deglaze the pan with the wine if desired.  Put back in the pan.
Add the flour, stir, add the milk and stir until the mixture is bubbly.  add the cream cheese and stir until the cheese is melted. Add more milk if the sauce is too think.  This is the point where you get to decide if you need to add some  sour cream.  Add salt and pepper to taste.

Layer the sausage mixture with the potatoes in a 2-3 quart casserole dish sprayed with cooking spray.  You can grease the casserole with butter or even the sausage grease, oh heck, mix it in with the potatoes while you are at it...  Sorry got carried away there... Okay, I really have done this but it can get to be a real high fat dish then.

cook for 1 hour at 350 degrees.  Cook covered for 45 min., then uncovered for the rest.

If you have some diced or sliced cooked potatoes... Make the sauce,  reducing the milk to1/2 cup, mix with the potatoes and bake for 20-30 min until hot and the top is browned.

Yo yo, what's better than old cooking with beef and potatoes? I'm also greek and sit around all day eating bread.

I made potato soup once with a basic recipe from foodnetwork.com and modiying one slightly.

Feelign fancy? Try pouring some olive oil into a shallow bowl or plate. Add black pepper, oregano, and pich of salt. Take some french bread and dip it in the oil and enjoy.

Outback rules. Onion bloom, rib-eye, baked potatoes!

A simple recipe my kids will eat. [26 May 2005|10:45am]

[ mood | creative ]

HI this is a recipe that has been around my family for awhile. My kids will eat it though one eats only the meat and the other eats the bread with only a tiny bit of meat.

Ground Turkey Pitas with Cumin Chili sauce

This is basically just a turkey loose meat sandwich in pita pockets.
Brown 1 pound of ground turkey with one chopped onion and a couple of cloves of garlic. If needed, de-glaze your pan with a little water. Add salt and pepper to taste. If you are feeling fancy you can de-glaze your pan with white wine or beer. Some times I will add green or red bell peppers, but then my kids won't eat it.

Place in pita pockets with mayo or sauce.

SAUCE.
Play with this to taste. I never make it exactly the same way twice. If you are not sure of a spice, start with less than called for and work your way up.

1 cup of plain yogurt, mayo, or sour cream or a combination of any of them.
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp lemon juice (if you have it, fresh.) If you want a more lemon-y taste, add a little bit of the zest as well.
dash of hot sauce

Mix and serve on the pita meat. This sauce is also good with raw veggies and cooked cauliflower.

mmm...Food [22 May 2005|12:28pm]

Hi! I'm new and I love food too. My favorite comfort food is almost any form of creamy potato casserole, with or without cheese.

I do love a good steak, though I'll be honest, if The choice is between the steak and a juicy, roasted chicken with nice golden, crispy skin... I would probably go with the chicken. What am I saying? I would have a bit of both.

My favorite Hot weather foods are BLTs, but don't skimp on the bacon and the tomatoes had better be ripe.
Also, potato salad (my own recipe, I am not a huge fan of mustardy potato salad), marinated cucumbers and of course Ice Cream.

My favorite Cold weather foods are Chili, beef stew, au-gratin Potatoes, cream chipped beef, Roasted chicken, roasted potatoes, broccoli or cauliflower with hollandaise sauce (well, just about anything with hollandaise sauce) homemade bread, and apple crisp.

Being in Minnesota, I have alot of Cold weather Favorites.

I love cooking good food for my family, however, they don't seem very fond of good food. I am convinced that my kids will either grow up thinking I am an awful cook, an excellent cook, or they will come home for dinner and ask me why I never cooked like this when they were kids. "I did, you just wouldn't eat it"

Sandwiches [03 Mar 2005|12:05pm]

[ mood | hungry ]

Man. I know I haven't posted here since I started this community, but I tried once and teh computer ate it. That made me angry.

Inthis community we can discuss food really. All kinds. We can post recipes and meal ideas, and we can angstily rant about the trends of todays society. What is up with not eating bread? BREAD IS GOOD AND YUMMY.

I would like to take a moment to discuss sandwiches. I love sand wiches. I eat tunafish sandwiches, PBJs and peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Does anyone else eat PBHs?

Anyway, I don't like subs and I don't like ham and cheese or any variant thereof. i do like tuna though. I really like grilled cheese sandwiches. I like toasted PBJs.

However, My favorite kinds of sandwiches are kind of bizarre. First, I love sub sandwiches or wraps that consists of only shredded cheese and tomatoes.
I also love sandwiches with chips on them. The best kind in my opinion is a PBH with Doritos. Oh yummy goodness. That is delicious.

Other chips like BBQ or SCO also taste good on PBJs but the also taste good on plain peanut butter sandwiches. Yes peanut butter and potato chip sandwiches; hey it is good i am not lying. You should try them.

Do you like any bizarre kinds of sandwiches, like pickles and Pb*shudders*(hey I have heard of it).
